okay so i installed a new timing belt and water pump this morning. as soon as i started her up again, i noticed it was making a new sound, it sounds kind of like a go kart and gets louder with more throttle.

do timing belts generally make a sound like this when they are newly installed? or what else could it be?

sounds like your timing is off by a tooth

 

i agree, sounds like you didnt put the crank or the cams on top dead center. Recheck everything and use a timing gun. Adjust the dizzy if its off.

 

that's why when i do timing belts i always put a mark on the crank & cam.

 

okay thanks. i won't have access to a garage for a couple days, would it be okay to drive until then?

 

please don't drive it. not safe..

 

would it possibly be the plastic cover touching the belt that is making the noise?
