Timing Belt Tensionater
Does anyone know if it's difficult to change the Timing Belt Tensionater? When should it go bad if at all? And are there signs for you to notice that it is going bad?I have a 99 Civic Ex and the dealer just replaced the Tensionater and the water pump.

it shouldn't really go bad...it is easy to change once the timing belt is off though...just one bolt, and a spring hooked into it for tension.

The dealer said it was the Timing Belt Tensionater. Well after I left the dealer the sound was gone.....

Re: Timing Belt Tensionater (DragIIcivic)
the errr sound was prolly the water pump dying.
but whatever works...if the problem is gone...what is the problem?

can't blame ya there. I wouldn't worry to much about it. what's done is done, and as long as the car is running fine, there isn't much you can do about it

If it wasn't tensioning the belt during reinstall of the timing belt...you would need to change it. you'll just have to take their word for it I guess....no way to really test it @ this point.

I'm sure you're not the only one that feels like that afterwards.
Usually the techs are pretty good. Who knows maybe a "hack" got your car and called it anyway....
