1998 Civic Lx head gasket issues
I have a 1998 Honda civic LX that I bought with 169k miles with a bad head gasket. It was still driveable because it would just burn coolant in the cylinder and wasnt mixing. I could go 600 miles before having to add antifreeze. So at 172k miles I replaced the head gasket with a permatorq felpro and put a remanufactured head on. No leaks or having to add antifreeze after that. At about 191k miles I am having the same issue as I first had buring antifreeze. What would make the headgasket go almost 20k miles later? Something I did wrong intially or just a freak thing. I just did a compression test Cyl 1 155psi Cyl 2 158psi Cyl 3 178psi Cyl 4 180psi. Any ideas or what to do this time would be appreciated thanks Justin
there are many possibilities. it could have been a bad aftermarket gasket, the reman'ed head might not have been flat, you may not have tightened the head bolts to the right torque or in the proper sequence, the block could be cracked. anything could be happening with that mileage on the engine. at this point it may be more economical for you to swap in lower mileage d.
I did torque all the head bolts right sequence and torque. I also did replace the headbolts with OEM bolts when I did the gasket. Recently I rechecked the torque to make sure that it wasnt a cause and it was good. One thing I did notice is that when the engine is hot and I start it it stumbles for about 5 second upon acceleration like coolant is in the cylinder. But if started when engine is cold it doesnt do it at all? Any ideas thanks
how was the first gasket blown?
overheated? over revved? old gasket?
you should have checked the block and head mating surfaces for flatness.
If the engine was previously overheated or overrevved; the head and block can be warped.

I'm having almost the same problem, car tends to overheat after about 20 minutes of driving. When I stop the temperature goes up but as I speed up it starts going down.Is it a easy diy job?

its not bad with the right tools, or the money to spend to have a professional inspect and repair the cylinder head and block. But you should make your own thread..
