rear lug nut stud replacement
i have a 94 accord lx and someone tried jacking my rims and broke two of my lug nut studs, how easy is to replace just the studs? i have rear drum brakes. can i just pop off the brake drum and try to find a way slide in the new studs without taking apart and the springs and ****??
From the exploded view it looks like you can replace it. You may need to take the backing plate off, but you can keep all of the springs and shoes and other components on it when you do it.
There is a way to replace the lug studs WITHOUT disassembling the rear drum brakes. You do , however, need two specialty tools.....a socket the size of your nut that is behind a dust cap and a torque wrench. Remove the dust cap, break the nut free, don't forget the washer, and then slide the bearing/hub assembly off of the knuckle stud. From there you should, without much work, be able to separate the hub from the drum. You SOMETIMES can take the drum off first but seeing that you are going to have to remove the hub assembly anyways, I would do that. From there just replace the lug studs that need to be and reassemble. DO NOT forget the washer or to torque the center nut to factory specs.
I just did this on my 01 accord don't know if they are different. I just made sure my hand brake was not on and bang the drum with hammer light shots till it cam out. I replaced 3 from one withing in 15 minutes.
