Default broil water from reservoir?

My friend's 94 civic w/ ls swap is broiling water from the reservoir. His fan works, but he don't have a thermostat. He runs straight w/out thermostat. What can cause the broiling? Help?

You mean boiling? It's caused by overheating.

Christ...

No thermostat would cause it to run cold, not hot/overheat.

Car is over-heating if it is boiling out coolant, Probably a toasted headgasket or warped head. Simpler options would be a clogged radiator or heater core, good luck.
