Using e85. Smog and performance.
Hey guys,
So I'm running a12.7:1 comp ls and therefor need higher octane. I've decided to go with e85 because of how much cheaper and easier to come than 100 octane.
Yes I know ill need huge injectors and yes I won't get amazing gas mileage. But now that we're over that....
With e85 will I have less trouble passing the sniffer part of the smog test?
Also using e85 vs 100 octane which is better hp wise?

Fuel economy won't be as bad as you think it will with the higher compression.. Also you can run E85 lean at cruising loads and further increase your ECO.. You should make more power with E85 since its oxygenated. As far as the sniffer test I'm not 100% sure on that but I think you'll pass with flying colors. I know E85 burns much cleaner than petrol but I'm not sure if there are other gases that it outputs that may cause you to fail the sniffer test.
Here in brazil most of the tuned cars use E85..
It really burns cleaner than petrol, so SMOG will not be an issue.
E85 will give you better HP but keep in mind you will need an apropriate fuel pump (walbro 25 will be fine) and alot more fuel delivered since stoich in gas is 14.7:1 and E85 sould be close to 8.8:1
