Default Aftermarket wheel, srs light? inspection?

i have a brand new spoon wheel that i wanted to put in my ITR, but before i did i wanted to make sure that there was a way i could still pass inspection when the time comes. Once i take out my stock wheel and put the spoon wheel in, the srs light will be on. If i keep my pass. airbag system in can i just install my stock ITR wheel and reset the srs light and pass inspection, or am i oversimplifying the process? I know a lot of people put aftemarket wheels in 96+ cars. Any advice will help...

Someone else will post further details, I'm sure. But I see no reason why what you propose won't work. The only problem is that you cannot sell your stock ITR wheel. Then again, it is best not to sell one's stock parts when modding - for possible later resale.

You don't need to put your stock wheel back in to turn the SRS light off. If you want to run the Spoon steering wheel without the SRS light on you will need to get a 2.2 ohm resistor to simulate the airbag. Then you will need to reset the light using the instructions below.

What state is your emissions testing? As long as your check engine light isn't on, srs may be overlooked because it's not emissions based, but on the safety aspect, it should pass. Remember, if your oem steering wheel came with horn buttons, your aftermarket wheel should have a visble horn pad on the wheel as well-state inspectors look for that. good luck

thanks for the help, im located in CT and emissions does not look for this kind of stuff, only exhaust and evap issues, so it looks like i can pull the airbag system on both sides if i wanted. Someone may want to clear this up but someone told me if i dont have the airbag system on the driver side the pass. side airbag wont work so i should remove it anyways...

No the passenger side airbag will still work if you do what I posted above. With the 2.2 ohm resistor the system will not know that any airbags were removed.

Yes, do the resistor trick where both air bags use to be.

If you're removing the airbags, why not just remove the SRS light from the gauge cluster, problem solved. Going through and putting in a resistor to "simulate" the airbags seems kind of pointless, when they're not even there.

x2..if your gunna take out airbags...i did the resistor trick because i wouldnt risk a passengers life...unless your gunna Track the car then i guess it doesnt really matter? but heres a video of how mines works with no airbag and the SRS light going off
after startup..aka working normally

What are they plugging in at your "inspection"? The only thing any state inspection has ever plugged in would be an OBD-2 port scanner, and that doesn't read SRS codes, its emissions related.

If you are removing the passenger airbag too, then you may as well remove the control module and wiring harness as well... and the cluster lamp too if you wish but it ain't going to lite without the module.

In Virginia, the SRS light must come on during start up, and then turn off. If it doesn't turn on at all, or doesn't turn off when it comes on, it doesn't pass inspection.

Now if you remove the ENTIRE SRS system, it will pass inspection, but you cannot just remove one component. All or nothing. I'm sure other states are the same.
