need piston/rod help for my h23a1
I have a 4th gen prelude si w/h23a1 engine...I'm going turbo soon and want to buildup the bottom end.. can i somehow get pistions that are for an h22a1 to fit into the h23a1? Reason for this is cause I want to run Eagle rods but they only have an application for the h22..So is this possible? if so, what do i need to do to make it happen?
I don't think they are interchangeable. I built up my motor a while back, and I'm pretty sure every vendor I talked to said the 2 motors used different sized rods. Eagle rods are cheap, but they don't work for the H23A1 as far as I know. I went with Pauter, which are compareable to crower.
well, i found my answer. Just so you know, Blownlude, it is possible..You just need to have a custom piston made that will allow the h22a1 rods to fit properly...Don't know if it's worth it, I'll let you know once I find a spare h23a1 to build...I'm have problems in that department.
why dont you just buy my h22 for cheap...ill even sell it w/a choice of heads...1 needs valves one need nothing...link below

ok here is the deal:
1) if you want to build up your motor, why are you going to replace 9.8 compression pistons with h22a's that are higher compression, wont fit, and are just as weak/strong?
2) If you get aftermarket pistons, you have to use the same bore size, and youll have problems with them glueing up with your cylinders due to the FRM lining. You can not bore out stock prelude sleeves. If you dont agree with me, go ahead and do it. Let me know how long your motor lasts you. Want more info? Do a search on this topic.
This is what you need to do
1) Have the block resleeved
2) Run new pistons, JE pistons or Wiseco 20 over.
3) Run Crower rods, i have them, they are available
You are looking at $1100 for pistons AND rods from race engineering. Sleeves will run roughly 400 bucks plus labor, which will be around 300+.

OK, I apologize for not being clear....I re-read my post and saw some mistakes..Here's what was proposed to me..
Running custom Ross piston's for h23a that were sized a little different so they would allow me to have eagle rods (h22 application cause eagle doesn't make h23 app) I just don't know enough about piston to rod ratios and so on to make sure its worth the money i'd save. The Ross pistons wouldn't be more than a normal set of JE and I would be saving about 200-300 bucks getting the eagle rods.
The block would be resleeved..That much I know..My whole plan was to save expenses on going with the cheaper Eagle rods versus the Crower. I was also told that with some head work, my redline would be up around 8000rpm. I'm not mentioning names cause I don't want a "he said, she said" war going on. But Gude, you might know this..Would raising my rpms that high be bad without having oil squirters? Was it you that installed them on your h23a?
