Weird No Start Problem, Ignition Switch to Blame?
Car: 96 integra sedan, completely stock
Yesterday the car suddenly died when I was driving to work. This is what I found:
1) The car will start up for a second then immediately die.
2) With the key turned in the ignition switch to the II (2nd) position the gauge indicator lights, such as the CEL and low oil pressure light DO NOT come on indicating a problem.
HOWEVER, when I advance the key to the III (3rd) position RIGHT BEFORE engaging the starter the indicator lights come on and the CEL comes on for 2 seconds and turns off as it's supposed to.
I found that if I hold the key in the starter engagement position the car will continue to run fine, with the exception of burning up the starter.
In order to drive the car home, I had my friend pull the wire from the starter signal switch terminal once I had started the car to stop the starter motor from turning. The whole way home I had to HOLD the key in the starter engagement position while driving or else the engine would immediately turn off.
I'm looking for input as far as what needs to be replaced. I've never had a problem like this before. The car drives as long as the key is held all the way in. So it is getting fuel, spark, etc. TIA
