KMS Valvetrain - SPRINGS/SEAT RUSTING??!!
hello all,
I am taking my valve springs and retainers out of my LS head right now so I can seat the valves using the compound. After I removed the retainers/springs I noticed there was rust on the bottom of every spring as well as the spring seat. The head has been sitting inside my garage but it still managed to get some rust? I'm thinking about taking the spring seats out and rubbing them with a gray scotchbright pad to get the surface rust off, but will the SMALLL amount of rust on the springs wear off after shes up and running, or should I simply taking a wool pad and knock it off too?
As far as seating the valves lets make sure I get this right. Basicly install a small amount of compound to the valve and rotate the valve tapping it once in a while to allow compound to flow. At what point do I know I have seated the valves correctly?? Some people say use a drill but but that doesnt sound safe....
