Default Clutch noise

97 SH

My car has been having issues left and right these past month. I understand it is a 12 yr old car and has 180K miles, but damn all at once?

Now, I am hear a sqeaking noise as i press the clutch down. Is this a sign of a clutch going bad?

Ive done all the proper maintenance on this car in the past month or so; timing belt, balance shaft belt, water pump, all belts, plugs, wires, distributor cap and rotor, new k&n filter, cleaned egr valve, cleaned throttle body and intake manifold, bought new tires, (waiting for my shocks to come in the mail), going to change lower ball joints.

After all this I have a whining noise coming from one of my belts. What a PITA.

Now it seems like clutch and flywheel are next.

Sorry for the venting, but my pockets are drained with all this maintainece.

If it squeaks a little when you press the clutch pedal down, it may just be lack of lubrication on where the slave cylinder pushes against the shift fork on the outside of the transmission. Spray some penetrating oil there and see if it goes away temporarily.

Look at the front of the transmission, you will see the clutch slave cylinder mounted there. Have a friend press the clutch in while you look. The slave cylinder pushes a short rod which pushes the release fork - most of which is inside the transmission housing. There is a rubber boot around the release fork to prevent moisture from going into where the clutch is. Spray right where the slave cylinder rod meets the release fork.

If that takes care of the sound, then you will have to remove the slave cylinder to properly lubricate it. Of course nothing bad will happen if you do not properly lubricate it, just the noise.

I think Lithium grease has better staying power, so use that if you've got it.

How loud a squeak? Could be the throwout bearing going out. I too have a '97 SH and have a horrible intermittent squeak/whine that I'm 99% sure is the bearing. Clutch/flywheel are in the mail, but yeah, it gets expensive fast, so I feel your pain.

Yeah, my throwout bearing (or idle bearing on my aftermarket flywheel) squeaks a little when the clutch is out, on hot days. Annoying, considering my clutch is not old at all and everything else is fine. I'm just going to wait until it makes a lot of noise before I consider taking the transmission out again.

The OP's problem is that the squeak happens when pressing the clutch in. That doesn't like a ThrowOut bearing to me.
