new valves used head question

new valves used head question
for some of you his will b a no brainer but for me i havent had much luck with the search engine.
if i buy new valves to put into my head do i need to have a machine shop properly seat them to keep from having leaks etc? or can i just clean it up and throw them in? im assuming i need to have the machine shop properly seat them
