As some of you have read already, I'm doing a little turbo project for a friend with a '97 non-Vtec (F22B2). The turbo will be nice for quick spool up and decent power.. a T3 Super 60. Would it be adviseable to retard the timing a few degrees? I know that other Hondas really dont need timing retard for a mild turbo setup. What are your guesses?

Upgrade ignition, run 93 octane, dont boost too much, should be fine as it is.

Upgrade ignition... as in higher heat ranged plugs and better wires? Or do you mean an ignition amplifier?

i would go ahead and get an ignition amp and all. also, MSD makes a great module called BTM, it retards a preset amount of ignition timing as boost rises.

I mean colder plugs, wires, and other usual MSD upgrade, ma6, etc.

Ya.. All that will probably be added in the future. For now, we just want to get an affordable, small boosting turbo setup running. Here's what we've ordered:

Turbo-Performance
F22 manifold
T3 Super 60 w/ .48 A/R
2.5" Downpipe
Deltagate 5psi spring

Various Vendors
MSD inline pump (Summit)
Autometer Pro-Comp boost gauge (Summit)
Vortech FMU 12:1 (HT member)
Missing Link (Importparts.. Thanks BEN!)
Drag Intercooler (Importparts.. Thanks BEN!)
TurboXS Type-H BOV (eBay)
Various piping (JC Whitney)

This "kit" should come out less than $2800.. which isn't bad for quality parts.. and all but the FMU are new. He already has better wires.. we'll just need to get colder plugs to get started. Would NGK BKR7E's work fine on an F22B2?
