Default 1986 Honda CRX "Wont Shift"

I have a 86 Crx, that wont shift.

I can shift when the engine is not running, but with the engine running it's very hard to change the gear's and they grind, I don't know what's wrong!

Has anyone had this problem before in the passed, does anyone have any suggestions.

i bet the clutch cable just needs to be adjusted. look at where the clutch cable is on the front of the tranny, the bracket there is adjustable, i have no doubt that its just too loose.

Since I bought the car, I did not adjust the clutch or anything else, just oil changes and tune-ups thats all.

it doesnt matter if you havent adjusted the clutch just do it its not even hard , just a 10mm wrench and you loosen one side and tighten the other. mabey the previous owner replaced the clutch and forgot to clamp it down with the two nuts and it just loosened itself.

Is there a specification for adjusting the clutch cable?

until it feels good to you but try not to overtighten. its best if you have two people one in the car trying out the clutch and the other adjusting it. make sure no one is standing in front of the car while you try to turn it on cuz the car might jump at ya.

Unless they did it different on the CRX than they did on the Civic that year you don't need any wrenches, it is a thumb nut on the top of the clutch cable at the tranny bracket. If you can pull up, without excessive force, on the cable near that nut and it comes up more than a few MM just tighten the nut down while pulling it up until the recesses on the nut start to bumped the nipple on the rubber stop. Then just let the the cable rest again so that the nipple is into one of the recesses on the nut. If you run out of adjustment take a good look at the next paragraph.

The other possible problem is that the bracket on the top of the pedal assembly broke. Easiest way to see about this is to look at where the cable goes into the firewall. If the rubber seals has been pulled into the car the bracket on the pedal ***. is most likely broken.

Anyway, check it out and let us know.
