Rod Knock, Vavle Tap, WTF?
Ok....so I threw my stupid alt. belt earlier today (came loose). So I went to honda and bought a new one since I was putting my A/C back in anyway. So I get home and put it on the new belt, and my car is making this really odd tapping noise.....it does it sparatically at idle and even when I rev it up it does the same. Does it sound like it could be a rod knock? It seems that if it was it would do it all the time....but like I said...it doesnt. I just tightened my vavles on sat. so I dont know what to think....

if you spun a rod bearing it would be a constant knock, but louder as the rpm's increase. i see you adjusted your valves, did they tick like this right after you finished it up before you started messing with your belt problems?
You would KNOW rod knock when you heard it. You'd be like "WHAT THE **** IS THAT?!?!?!?!?!? Is the world ending?!?!?!?"
My official diagnosis... valve tick.
My official diagnosis... valve tick.
Damn....I feel like an *** now
My friend from work came over to look at it (I train with him at the BMW dealer) So we got out a screwdriver and was putting it to places on the block/head....and listening to it to see where it was coming from....and it turns out that my altenator is making the noise
.....
Ohh well.....thanks for the replies...Off to get it rebuilt
