speratic knock
OK so I have heard rod knock and piston slap and spun bearing many times. Tonight I go to get out of my car and I hear something strange. I pop the hood and there is a dreadful knock sound. BUT the strange part is that it is very speratic. It is like it only does it once ever second at idle rather than the typical spun bearing rod knock wear you here it going kakakakakakakakakakakakak at idle. Mine is like a kak.....kak....kak....kak....kak....kak. I can probaly count a kak one two kak one two kak. like that to it and it does speed up a hair in a rev but doesn't get louder. It is very faint and you can't really hear it with the hood closed. But I know it has to be something internal. Just had the timing belt replaced and have had some oil leak problems and blow by lately too. Lowest down the motor has ever been is 1 quart of oil. Anyone have any theories as to why I may be hearing something hear and why it is speratic rather than constant.

After I was sitting and thinking about this last night I talked to some DSM gurus and they told me the same thing to try the clutch in and out.
VOILA: the sound goes away when I push the clutch in and then when I relase it there it is. I ahve had a bit of a whine coming from teh tranny lately too so this adds to the validity that it is more likely a Throw out bearing than anything.
Later today I chagned the oil and listened to the oil pan and heard barely anything. I put my ear next to the flywheel and the tranny and there it was, kakak...kakkak...kakak! so I jumped up and went WOOOOHOOOO in the voice of homer simpson cause I have found that it is not rod knock. THANK GOD. stupid throwout bearing.
