Default steering broke?

so i was driving yesterday and hit a bump in the road and heard something pop then i go to turn onto my street and my steering goes limp i thought maybe one of my tires sprung a leak.....so i go to turn again and nothing my steering weel just turns but my tires don't.

i turn the steering wheel back i hear a pop and i get my wheels to turn....

i havent had time to get my car up and look at it....

so my question is have any of you had something like this happen? i was thinking it might be a tie rod or something i really have no idea....

i know i can fix whatever is wrong i just wanted some input before i get greasy

oh and its a 94 si

My guess is that it could be a bad rack.

Kinda hard to diagnose with the info given...

well its been a few days but i finally got under there and figured out what happend......

on the tie rod end the bolt the connects to the control arm (or whatever its called) anyways the nut on that bolt sheared off all the threads on the bolt therefor the bolt came loose and disconnected its was kinda scary considering it happend while i was driving but it was a really easy and rather cheap fix.....i got a new tie rod end and decided to get the other side too just cause i might as well...i picked them up at pep boys for about 45 all together.....

i marked them before i took them off and everything is working out nicely it drives straight and im happy haha

but thanks for the input on what it could have been....

thanks smokecdxx

The marking is cool, but you may be slightly off still. Consider an alignment, but just to save on tires.

Get an Alignment, being as little as .25 Degrees out of specifications can eat your tires alive.
