Icon2 How to replace the cluster without losing the mileage reading?

Hello,
My temp and fuel gauges are not work right. Both goes all the way up to max and full even though they are not. I want to replace the cluster and retain the mileage reading of the old cluster so I don't have to report to the DMV. Can the odometer be remove and put on the new cluster?
Here's how my cluster might have gotten ruin:
I have a 1990 Honda Accord LX 4 door automatic. My radio black plastic trim got cracked so I bought a used from from a nice guy, cp[mike]. The trim is in great condition.
My speedometer has been given me some problem. I would be going about 30 mph and it does not go up. I had to thump it for it to go up. The speed sensor has been replaced about less than a year so it's not that.
I figure I would open up the cluster and see if I can replace the circuit board behind it but I did not find anything the resemble that of the DIY thread on this forum. So I close it up and reinstall it with my radio trim.
Before I fire up the car, I had been having problem with my car hesitation at around 50 mph and I had to let go of the pedal slightly for it to speed up constantly again. So I remove the alternator cap to check under it. As I remove it, the spring behind the ion shield got caught some how and was pull out slightly. I fixed the spring and put the cap back on as I found nothing bad.

Now I fire up the car and my speedometer cluster seem to not work probably. At first, my tach meter, fuel gauge and temp gauge did not work. The fuel and temp gauge goes all the way up and even when the car is cool and my fuel level is only a quarter before.
My questions are:
1) Does pulling that spring behind the distributor cap have anything to do with the cluster malfunction?
2) Did I mess up the cluster when I opened it?
I check the wiring and nothing is loose.

I would like to know if any one had the same problem as mine before and was there a fix for it?
Should I just buy a new used cluster? I am afraid buying a new cluster might not fix the problem.
What kind of wiring problem would it be?
Also, I removed those 12 brownish screws to look behind the cluster but I did not notice that they had different length. Would the length of the screws have anything to do with this malfunction?
The car seems to drive fine and it's not overheating as far as I can see. Would the cluster malfunction cause my car to overheat?

Thanks for any help.

Anyone got a cluster for sale with around 134,400 miles on it so I don't have to report to the DMV?

Thanks,
