Default Antenna question?

I have a 97 ex. I want the antenna to always be in the down position, instead of extending because I think it gives the car a cleaner look. I know I can buy an antenna block off, but I want to keep the stock antenna so that i get reception on my radio. Is there a wire i can cut to keep it from extending, and still get reception on my radio, or how should I go about this?

There's probably a motor that extends the antenna. You have to cut the wire that power the motor.

Although, I think what you're doing is a bad idea. For good reception, you need the antenna to extend. That's why it's there. Of course, there are always people who prefer aesthetics over function.

Well, is the antenna suppose to retract once the car is off, or once the radio is off, cause mine is extended at all time? Is there a way to make it retract? Its the fact that its constantly extended that bothers me

Hmm, can't answer that question. My civics didn't have a power antenna so I wouldn't know. Hopefully someone can answer your question.

Are you sure you have a power antenna and not a manual one?

Don't brake it. If it doesn't retract, the motor or the wiring is bad. Fix it if you can.

That sounds like a good idea, but how much does all that cost and how hard is it to install the hidden antenna? And is there a walk threw?
