what part of my drive train is Boned?
its a 98 hx AT.wen i start the car, everything is fine, when placed in neutral it sounds normal. But if i put it in drive or reverse it sounds like a rock in a dryer or something.any idea as to why ? and is there any parts from an EX i can use to swap some malfunctioning parts out?
about 120k.there was fluid and the boot on one of the axles looked kinda trashed.i thought those just clicked when you turned though?
with the HX being cvt,is there anyway to just replace its trany with that of an EX of the same gen?

outer cv's click on turns..inner cv's clunk on accel/decel.
but cv joints is "not" your issue here. (edit: i could be wrong with not knowing if the car drives or not..)
whats the level of the fluid?

Edit, never noticed the part about the axles. You can break CV joints (ask me how I know) I've seen the cage the ***** run in for the outer joint completely self destruct before. So, jack the car up, and see what happens when you put it in gear, if the inner joints turn and the wheels don't you've got a bad axle. If not see what I said earlier.

well,i have a 94 LS motor(auto),but cant find a consistent list as to what all i will need to make the auto to manual conversion so i can drop it in in the HXs stead
Theres a ton of auto to manual how tos for '96 - '00s and one write up that specifically pertains to the HX.
honestly it would be cheaper in the long run to get a manual tranny and convert over. The cvt used in the hx is a totall pos and after about 100k or so miles it takes a huge dump. The other automatics that honda has used in the civics are much better but they still do not have the durability that the manual has. If you converted over to a 5 speed you could use any d series tranny you wanted with the one from the ex the best due to the closer gear ratios. If I'm not mistaken I've heard that the hx manual is the same as a cx/dx. My 97 hx w/ 180k miles not one single issue with the tranny and still running the orig. clutch.
There is nothing that I can think of that makes the hx harder to convert over, I think the hardest part would be finding the manual version of a p2n which is the d16y5 ecu. If you could find one of those you'd be set.
