Default How big must be an oil cooler for a b16 turbo?

Hi!!

I would like to know wich oil cooler would be nice for my setup. Because after a few gears WOT, the oil temperature raises up so quick to 240-250ºF, my turbo is oil cooled only, and i still have the stock radiator (i'll get a CX performance or mishimoto maybe...)

I've seen oil coolers from 9 rows to 30 rows, i don't know if 30 rows is too much, what u think?

This is my setup:

-Low comp pistons

-Rochester/Delphi 998cc @ 43 Psi Fuel injectors

-Wallbro 255 fuel pump

-Garret T3/T4 ar .63

-Stock water radiator

you don't need an oil cooler unless you're doing some sort of endurance racing. temps spiking for a few minutes isn't going to be detrimental.

Do you have a Honda oil to water cooler on it already?

Do u mean the heat exchanger? (i don't know if it's called in that way...) you mean, the part wich is between the engine and the oil filter? If it's that, it is working

If i want some fun on the streets, the oil temp raises up so quick, with only a few gears...and i also want to do some track days... so i'll need one

I've seen that there're diferent sizes, from 9 to 30 rows, wich would you recomend me? 30 rows is too much? remember that my turbo is only oil cooled

Thanks!!

Yes that. Just wondering if you had one. Do you see a rise in ECTs after the oil temp rises? How long until the oil temp goes back down?

When i go WOT, the EGT rises up to 1250-1300ºF, the oil rises up to 240-250ºF, after that, when i'm cruising, the egt is around 900-1000ºF,after around 5-10 minutes the oil cools down to 220ºF

While i'm cruising, oil temp is between 190-210ºF

I’m running a 13 row that’s thermostatically controlled, fits in the inner wing cavity were the resonator use to be, cut out the fog light aperture for air flow.
Like you, I run the car on circuit and find an oil cooler is necessary, for the price it’s certainly going to add more safety rather than not having one.
Have to say though, those temperature rises seem quite dramatic, maybe something else going on with your tune causing this situation?

Wich is your setup? b16turbo? wich one?

I don't have any other turbo car here to compare if their temperature raises so quick:S

as i said... i'm still using the stock water radiator (1.6 Sr, SOHC 16v 125cv...) i'll get one better, but maybe, first would be better to get an oil cooler... so... what temps do you have under WOT conditions?

thanks!

as long as there is a thermostat to prevent over-cooling the oil, i think any size will do.

the factory water to oil cooler is very effective, that is if you have your coolant temps under control... If you want to make the most difference, keep your under hood temps as low as possible with header wrap, turbo blanket etc. also get a good radiator.

I would pick quality over size(no ebay or parts house brand crap). However like someone has already mentioned, use a thermostatic switch. permacool makes a pretty nice one. What are your coolant temps (ect's). It kinda sounds like you might be having other issues if the oil temps spike that quickly
