Default Looking At My First CRX Del Sol...

Hi guys.
Looking to buy a CRX. This will be my second car since passing, first being BMW E36 328iS, so I'm not very experienced in the world of car buying. I'm 22 btw.

I have found this CRX Del Sol SIR about 3-4 hours from me, it has custom exhaust fitted, air intake, 4-1 manifold, replaced upgraded suspension. Been dyno'd at 200bhp.
http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/sales/1024929.htm

Any thoughts? Is the mileage OK, I've read the reliabilty is amazing on Honda's and CRX's. Had bad experience with my BMW with head gasket going after 6 months of me buying it.
Trying to justify the journey up there, would be expensive to come back empty handed,,,

I'm looking for maybe 3 years out of it before moving onto something more "serious" with career and that. I 'm not mechanically minded either so the mods/performance seems an appeal to me as its there straight away.
Anything I should really check/ask before hand with these cars?

Insurance would be £1000/yr with all mods declared. Most probably get the guy down to £2800 for the car i reckon.

Thanks.

Before anyone blasts the op outside the US they are commonly known as CRX Del Sol. It is uncommon for them to be refered to as CRX Del Sol state side.

IMO the car has been messed with, I would be leary of that. Hondas are very reliable, and the Del Sol is no exception. The B16A is rugged engine, but lacking in torque.

Sorry completely forgot about the naming in the US! Thanks for clarifying.

There is paperwork for the mods and are from reputable garages, tho obviously I cannot know what's been done to it fully.
If it's been 'messed' with do you suggest just to walk away? I am only looking for 2-3 years out of it really and the sale seems incredibly transparent and honest. Not to mention the service and recent work that was put into it. Do you think that counts for much? (I'm tlaking about the Cam Belt swap, drive shaft, wishbones, bearings etc)

That looks like a bad *** show car. so if your not into that dont get it. that car will get stolen the night you buy it if it is not garage kept or a bad *** alarm on it.

other than that everything seems legit. he has papers on everything so to me it seems like a car that wont give any problems and will run great. like he said it has the bullet proof b16a2. I would go for it.

Looks nice. I am always leery of buying from someone so personally invested in a car. Sometimes they ask for ridiculous money since they have "done" so much work to the car. They can be very over valued.

But even with the cost being at 2800 quid equal to $5600 USD means that this car has either had a ton of work done that the owner isn't charging for...or it isn't what he claims. I mean $5600 for a Del Sol B16A2 with all the body work and stereo equipment...seems unlikely. Especially if the car is as rare in the UK as you say it is.

Be wary...

Just my opinion.

Umm maybe the guy selling it got money and just wanna get rid of it. Maybe you should buy that. it looks clean as a bawl head and if you do buy it your rich too. Maybe I should shutup lol. Maybe nevermind.

I genuinely like that, regardless of popular opinion. Everything except the wheels and side skirts seems to be of high(ish) quality...For the price, I'd do it in a heartbeat. Trans-Top FTW!

Thanks for the input guys, as much as I love the sound of it I think I've decided to leave it.
I think the chance of it getting stolen, either totally or partly, is on my mind a bit as well as well as the fact its so far away and I don't know much about it.

I think I'll look for something more standard and then do what I want with it...

Cheers!
