Default painting carbon fiber / keeping the look...

Hi guys, I seen some posts on the forum with the search, but did'nt found the info I wanted.

here, I was looking for a ZC hood, all in metal, but the neerest I found is the same price that a metal one, but is in CF. The only problem is that I want to keep my car as "stock as I can", so a Black hood on a red car would just kill this. So here is my question:

Can I paint the CF, but keep the CF appearance under the paint?

I dont know if you understand but I means that it should look like a "red carbon fiber hood". just to keep the car the right colors, but with the "carbon cool factor"

(I know, my english is bad...i'm french...)

Yes and no. You CAN paint it with a kandy paint, which is slightly transparent. This will allow the carbon fiber to show through. And it'll get you close to red. The only problem with painting it with kandy, is that it's only going to look kinda close. You'll never get the hood to look exactly like the rest of your car and still show through. Because all your other paint is opaque.

you can also have the hood sprayed with a red pearl mixed into blender and then clearcoated, it will have a similar effect, you should have somene do some sprayouts for you to find something you like before you commit

Eh well technically I could correct myself by saying that you could also paint it with clear that has a solid red mixed in.....buuuuut it wouldn't have any depth, and I think it would turn out a hazey red.

Ha ha

actually, candy paint is basically just clear with tint in it. in fact, as long as you only use a little tint you can do it that way also, mix a little REDUCED milano (if thats teh color of the car) red into some clear and try it out. theres a few ways to do this, i have used that same technique with black paint in clear to smoke out lights rather than spending 10 bucks on a can of nightshades, and i have NEVER had an issue. of course, make sure you prep the surface properly depending on what you are doing.

nice! post pics and what you've done to make it ready for the paint when it will be done please!

I won't make it right now, maybe in the end of summer or on the next spring. I just wanted to know what to do before buying the hood itself.

that hood actually looks like it was a blue carbon kevlar hood. Ive never seen a candy coated hood look that good before. I mean they look nice but not as bright or defined as the on on that civic

Well will you please tell me how to paint over can step by step with high end finish?
Do I just paint over cf straight or I have to sand it down with 800? And then clear coat sand it down then candy then clear coat again to finish it off?
