Default 1996 Hatch D15 turbo with major pressure loss??? Help

Ok I need someone's advise that knows more about hondas than I. My main focus when i started with cars were DSM's so I am new to Honda. A buddy of mine has a 1996 civic hatchback that the guy he bought it off of Put a D15 block with a D16 head and put a T3/T4 turbo on it. the problem is that the ECU supposedly is for a non vtec but they chipped it and did the handata s200 to it and it runs. well he has a switch that controlls the vtec. its variable between on/off/and at a push of the button. When vtec is on and his boost is up to 10psi around 50-55 mph in second gear the car boogs down and starts back firing and hoping like he doesnt know how to drive manual. now like i said i dont know much about cars that werent turboed from the factory and now are so please if you have smart *** comments to make and arent willing to help me just dont say anything at all. Im here to try and get some info for a friend in disstress. He has had the car for about 2 weeks and cant figure it out. Thanks!!!

yeah it was tuned. but the thing that we dont know is if it was tuned with a bigger fuel pump and injectors. as of now the pump and injectors and FPR seem stock but has an aftermarke fuel rail. the guy had some crazy *** set-up. He diconected the TPS and was running two MAP sensors. We hooked up the TP and only ran one MAP and it seemed to stop the jump idle, but now it seems like in second gear at about 4,000 rpms the car cuts the fuel off. so i dont know if it is running too lean due to the turbo or what. I know a good amount about modding cars but this thing has me stumped. Im begining to think the previous owner was a moron and didnt know what the **** he was doing.

judging by the speed and gear from the problem you are describing it sounds like it goes a little on the fat side when vtec crossover occurs. I would take the car to a shop capable of dyno-tuning the car and get the a/f's straightened out asap. Since s200 is already installed on the car it sounds to me like it just needs a tune. Also remove the vtec switch, as that's 100% retarded in the first place and i'm not sure what the point of it is.

100% I agree with you about that switch. Supposedly the guy claims the switch is there because the ecu is for a non vtec but I can see how the car even runs. I think the person who built it was an idiot. I told
Him to take it to a shop but we were trying to see if we could fix it. Maybe thinking this is a common problem. But thanks for the advise!

Its called Vtec on demand, Its just for someone whos too cheap to buy the right ECU or doesnt know how to wire it up correctly.

If you got stock fuel injectors and fuel pump, thats your problem you need 450cc Injectors and a bigger fuel pump to accomadate for the boost if not you'll have too much o2 and not enough gas = bad preformance

i would eliminate the switch....i was running a y8 with pm7 pistons and a vtec switch...one day the vtec solenoid decided to stick open thus starving the block for oil and i melted the ring lands on all 4 pistons. i would leave things controlled by the computer, up to the computer to make happen.
