Default I dont know much about turbo...please help me!!!

Alright guys...I've been readin up about turbos as much as i can and i still feel like i dont know anything about it. I'm really a "do it yourself kinda guy" and id like to do the whole build of a...b20 block, b18(or maybe b16) vtec head, and a t3/t4 turbo. Know of anysites that tell how to assemble a turbo engine and all kinds of crap like that. Anyways please just help me any way you can...gimme some kind of pro or con about turboin and any site/sites that can help me...decide on a turbo(size, company, anything else),decide on what combo to do(ie block, head, and turbo) and your opinions of what you have done or seen done work good and some estimated hp and tq. figures. Thanks...this site is awesome so far!!!

turboin
Is that like heroin? Anyway... Buy this book at amazon.com:

and just read every post on this board. Instead of asking ALL the questions like you did, break it down and ask one question and ask followup questions to it so you can fully understand the topic in depth, and move on to the next one. Print out the threads, take notes, compile information. There's ALOT to know and nobody knows everything. Not even me *cough*...

Welcome aboard.

do you guys think this would be a good setup?
b20 block...made by DART
b18c1 head...probably stock w/ some upgraded cams(this has got to show my newness to engine tuning in general, cause there is obviously more i would have to upgrade)...etc.
then a t3/t4 hybrid turbo...probly from Garrett
I would really like to be makin about 450 plus hp(which i have seen done, in a published book...this thing is awesome, its a stock b18c1 engine, i dunno what turbo, and its makin 479 hp...wow!!!)
Anyways...just give me your thoughts

tha thing about borin, and sleevin a b18 to 2.0 is that it'll be weaker, meaning less boost, resulting in less power. With this dart b20 block its got alot longer stroke and larger bore, 95mm stroke and 84.5 mm bore, plus it's four times as stong as the stock honda(which can easily run about 19 psi, so w/ this block i can run amazingly high amounts of boost w/o even worryin about tha block too much, just detonation)
That's why no bored b18.

no true at all. We sleeved my b18c1 to 84.5mm and that bitch will hold over 600hp. I personally don't think the b20 is a good choice unless it's an all drag car. Well unless it's just left pretty much stock. Anyway, the FI forum is where you want to be to learn ALL. Good guys with good info here.

wow dang...600 hp! how much does it usually cost to get it sleeved...and how much did it cost you to get it done?

And when upgrading to a turbo what all do i need to take into consideration for upgrading?

Another thing...should i do ls turbo, vtec turbo, ls-vtec turbo, or ls and install tha vtec cams turbo(yes i do know that is a pretty hard procedure...and keep in mind im tryin to keep the cost as low as i possibly can) anybody have a setup idea, with cost of engine and all, that i could keep under 5 grand...and anybody found some really good turbo kit deals?
Thanks...everybody thats helpin me is awesome!!!

if you re sleeve your motor they can handle like 40 psi of boost(properly tuned)
meaning a re sleeve motor(by ge or whoever) will hold up to more than you cna throw at it

If you're gonna go DART then im pretty sure you're gonna go over that budget by just a bit.

I can't remember how much it cost to sleeve the block. The turbo i have is a T4 60-1 garrett ball bearing. On friday night, at 10psi, i made 326hp and 219ft-lbs torque to the wheels. This is also with a stock head and fmu fuel setup. My entire setup cost me around 23k. That's just a ballpark estimate for something like that. This week, i go to put in some 550cc injectors and am looking for around 400hp to the wheels. As to the motor, i chose the b18c1, i know alot of guys that do the lsvtec swap. Both are good strong motors. If you choose the ls and sleeve it to 2.0 you practically have a b20. Good luck.

Im pretty sure they cost atleast 2500 bucks and that is just the bare shortblock. You still need rods/pistons, head, etc.
