Default D15b tranny on a D16z6?

I need a new tranny for my 93hatch. Its got the stock d16z6, and i found a guy selling a tranny from a d15b for a good price.
Will it directly bolt on without issues?
any major difference in gear ratios between the z6 tranny and the 15b tranny?

The ratios are actually quite a bit different...your car will feel much more sluggish I promise. it will bolt up and work just fine though. Good luck!

everything seems to point to them being almost identical, as I figured, since all the z6/y8/d15b engines are almost identical in performance as well. just check out this thread:

https://honda-tech.com/forums/honda-civic-del-sol-1992-2000-1/y8-tranny-d15b-correct-2209049/

though with the amount of mis-information out there, I could still be wrong. All I know is that I'd much rather have a d15b tranny on my z6 than the b7 tranny I have on it now =P

The D15B2 tranny is geared very high I promise you that...The D15B7 tranny is geared higher than the Z6, and the B2/Z1 tranny is geared higher than the B7. All of them fit without an issue though!

5G 92-95 USDM
tranny gear ratio M/T D15B8/D15Z1 D15B7 D16Z6
1st 3.250 3.250 3.250
2nd 1.761 1.761 1.900
3rd 1.066 1.172 1.250
4th 0.852 0.909 0.909
5th 0.702 0.702 0.702
REVERSE 3.153 3.153 3.153
FINAL DRIVE 3.250 3Dr:3.888 4.250

The D16Z6/Y8 are the best tranny's for D series. They are geared for best acceleration.

This would be true if it were from a D15B VTEC-E, but we're all assuming it's from the D15B that makes 130hp@6800rpm. LSD was optional on the D15B tranny, giving it an advantage over the D16Z6 tranny. I read somewhere that the 3rd gear is shorter on the D15B tranny, I've never driven one before so I don't know for sure. Everywhere else I've read says the gear ratios are identical to a D16Z6 tranny. Nevertheless, 3rd gear does need to be shorter, imo .

Yes it's a direct bolt on, just make sure it's not a VTEC-E transmission, that would be a serious downgrade. I would hold out for a D15B tranny with LSD.

Do you guys mean the D15B VTEC trans (JDM)? In that case yes, some of those do have lsd, but they are not readily available in the U.S. The OP never said if it was a jdm tans or not...hmmm.

its a D15B, meaning its JDM automatically. Also LSD only came on the automatic D15B's as an option (dunno why). I'm pretty sure that the OBD2 Double Vtec version of the D15B also has a short tranny. That head goes from VTEC-E(3-valve) to normal(4-valve) to VTEC (higher profile cams), its not a gas mileage car like our HX. Its just an example of JDM Market getting speedy cars with insane gas mileage.

I've been in the game long enough to know that, but I've also been in the game long enough to know that people call D15b7s D15B2s D 15Bs, when all three are different animals entirely. When you post on here you need to be very exact...I am betting the OP is talking about A B7 or B2 trans, but I guess we will have to see if he reposts...

Sorry I meant the B8...12 valve cx engine. That engine came with the same trans as the VX (D15Z1)...

o wow, B8 is a CX tranny. And a CX is actually 8 valve. I belive it has alot wider tranny. Dont put that on your car unless your boosting a ton and making alot of power lol. otherwise it will just be slow as ****.

ahhhh...cx = 8 valve...good point...and the VX is 12 valve Vtec - E right? Anyway...I do know this about hydro '92 to '95 transmissions...
cx and vx...very long
dx and lx (same engine) - long but not near as long as the cx/vx
ex and si (same engine) - shortest of the '92 - '95 d series transmissions (USDM)
