0bd1 swap legal issues!
so i have a 97 civic cx, im thinking about either doing a minime swap with comp cam or swaping my motor for a b series. my question is say i purchase an obd1 setup, can i update the electronics on it to make it obd2 legal, i need my car plugged in to pass state inspections. the reason i wonder about this is obviously for money resons as i could get a b16 obd1 for around the same price as an obd2 b18b swap. would there be any way to pull this off?
first what state do you live in?
second if your in California the only way it would be legal is if the motor is same year or newer. get a 96-2000 motor and youll be ok. it will be the same price in the end

no just same the money and do it right the first time. in that car you'll need motor mounts if you do a b swap. you could try this company www.hmotorsonline.com. many of the California races get their motors from them. but i am sure there are some good motor ships in the NY area.
yeah i know all about the swaps and how to do them. i was wondering loopholes of the law, or a way to hookup a obd1 but have the ecu obd2. like would i be able to use an obd2 dizzy on a obd1 motor?
there is no MAJOR diff. between obd1 and obd2 motors..they all have the same sensors except obd2 has a few more sensors than obd1..also the injectors, alt, and dizzy require diff. plugs depending on which engine harness u use
here a easy way for you. I'm guessing you got a d16z6 obd1 engine correct? if you do, Just switch the obd1 harness on the dizzy to a obd2 meaning switch the plug. To make life easier just find a 96-98 honda civic ex harness. You can just use the same alternator and starter its all d-series and you can even use your cx injectors if you want, but I'll go with the 96-98 ex injectors cause its 240cc and the cx is 210cc? I dont know you'll have to look it up. You can just use a p2p 96-98 ex ecu. The 96-98 ex harness is easier cause you dont have to wire vtec cause its already there Its a plug and play harness. Than your set. Simple as that, but if your going to reuse your cx harness, your giong to have wire issue. Ohyea make sure you get a knock sensor also.
It would be a lot easier if you got a hold of a obdII d16y8 engine.

Dam why go through that much trouble to do a motor swap. He has to buy the motor and tranny he should just get an obd2 b16, 18, or 20 and save the money and trouble. There are ecu that work with obd2 and are the same price as the s300 and he won’t have to worry about the smog crap every few years. A motor swap is only $2000 + adapters.

obd2 computers are unchippable, and untunable.
best bet is a 97+ (98+ preferably) swap.
ok, i dont have to worry about cali ****, but here in ny we have to plug cars into the obd port and everything has to match up. the major reason between obd1 and obd2 is price i did not know if i could save some cash by dropping in an obd1 motor and rigging the obd2 stuff up, idk it was a long shot. i think i just want a 240sx ugh...
