Default horrible luck on engine rebuild

i have a 92 civic 4 door i got for free that was blown up.
i put a 98 integra b18b1 in it, and boosted it on 8 lbs.
the only engine management i had was dsm 450cc injectors, and a fuel pressure regulator.
i ran it for awhile untill my wastgate fell off my cheap *** ebay manifold so i took it all apart and welded it back on and forgot to hook up the vacuum line from the wategate to the turbo.
i took it for a drive not realizing what i had done and it pulled very hard several times untill i looked at the boost guage and saw it coming down from 15lbs...

and blown ringland on #1 cylinder......
: (

i i had extra ls piston laying around and put them all on my rods so i could use the same bearings.
and i put brand new piston rings on all of them.
and i put my fresh b16a head that i just got back from the machine shop on also.
ls/vtec turbo : )
used gsr head bolts and cams, drilled out the head for dowel pins.... yada yada ya..
all the ls vtec ****.
im not a newb at this , and its not my first rebuild but i have 200psi of compression all the way across now but i have oil in #2 cylinder and i dont have a clue why, the oil rings went on fine and the piston went on fine also???

try doing a cyl. leak down test both wet and dry. that should help you find the culprit.

Buy a compression tester and modify it with brass NPT T's to make it work using a air hose connection. If you did all this to your car, your smart enough to figure it out.

I have pictures of the one I made but I can't upload photo's here at work.

Get a Leakdown tester. Harbor Freight has one for about $40, and other places for a few bucks more.

It does pressurize the cylinder, but the gauges on it will tell you the problem (it tells you in the instructions.)

I think there may be a FAQ on how to do it at the top of the main forum. Also one on how to make your own.

Good luck!

To make one, install the male air fitting on the inlet side of a shut off valve, connect SOV to a T, connect pressure gauge to the other side of the T, connect hose to spark plug hole on the branch of the T. Pressurise cylinder, close SOV and watch pressure decay.

If you would of got a real engine management, you wouldn't of run into this problem in the first place. dsm 450cc injectors and a fuel pressure regulator are not management.

you put new piston rings on, but did you hone the cylinders? If you're getting oil in the #2, you may piston-to-wall clearance issues. is your wastegate an ebay knockoff too?

i was acyually getting oil in cylinder 3 also.
i took out pistons 2 and three the oil ring on 3 must have gotten messed up when i put it in cause it was bent. 2 looked fine. i replaced the oil rings on both cylinders again and it still does it.

yes i have an ebay wastegate< it has not spiked once except when i left the vacuum line off adn it blew the ringlands.

Building engines has nothing to do with luck.
