civic 1996 ex manual

hey today after i pumped gas and tried to start on my car, it wouldnt work, it would just pass the ignition part, nothing turned on... then when i tried to mess with it, i kept tryin to ignite the car, but it wouldnt even make the fire up it was just dead.

we jump start it.... what do you know it turns on... i drove it home, but throughout the ride, my head lights were very weak and dim, the cd player kept turning off, my car felt really weak.. when i got home, turned off the car, and when i tried to start it back up, it wouldnt ignite at all just like the gas station....

do you think its the alternator? help i have work at 6 in the morning



UPDATE: ive been jumping it with my car, it will only ignite when its being jumped...

im wondering can i continue to keep doing this for a couple more days??? or is it a bad idea and will break something else

 

Remove the battery and take it to an auto parts store for testing. If it's bad, replace it. If it's good, have it charged, reinstall it, drive the car back to the auto parts store, and have the alternator tested.

 

i think autozone offers free battery testing so that will give you a definite answer if it's your battery or your alternator. My car is doing the exact thing as yours..dim lights and radio keeps turning off. I know 100% its my battery. so i hope this info helps you out.

sounds like an alternator problem.

 

Yes, alternator. Or the alternator belt is broken (you can rule that out though if the battery light in your cluster is off during normal operation) or is really loose and slipping.

 

Check the connections on the alternator for any signs of corrosion..and make sure they are on tight..

did you make any attempt at all to figure out what it is?

no one can tell you for sure what it is without being able to see it for themselves.
