Default sucked some water last night.. any ideas?

well.. there i was driving home from a movie on the interstate, clear skies, gorgeous weather, when i got back in town, the bottom fell out, massive amounts of rain fell like i had never seen before.. about a mile from my house (i was going 25-30 mph at the time because of poor visibility) i hit a big puddle and my car died soon after.. i let it sit for about 5 minutes, tried to crank it and nothing, i believe it was hydrolocked, i kept cranking and eventually got it started and was able to make it home.. the next morning i went to check everything out, it starts and runs great with the exception of a loud ticking noise, coming from around cylinder one (this is a 99 gsr mind you) , i believe its from the top of the engine.. i have since changed the oil and when i took it out for a test run it seems just as strong as it has ever been.. but it ticks for some reason.. anyone ever had this happen? or have any ideas? thanks in advance

Check valve lash?? Did it tick before?

Was the oil milky? How long was the engine run if the oil was milky?

Good idea. Next time make sure you drain the oil right away instead of trying it again though

Hydolocking a motor can damage a rod bearing/ rod or valves. The very same thing happened to me this week. the car was at idle rolling through some Really deep water. The car shut off. I knew what happened So I did not try to start it. Pulled my GSR home pulled the plugs out. THe cylinders had 1-2 inches of H20 in them. Used compressed air to blow almost all of it out, spun the motor over WITHOUT plugs in it to blow the rest out. Changed the oil fired her up and good as new. The key to water in a motor is that it will not compress like air and instead bends/tweaks the components trying to squeeze it. I would be more worried about #1 rod bearing being the source of the noise. I hope not Good lUck

well ive been driving the car just to see if itll blow or not, i have another gsr engine already so i dont realy care if it dies or whatever, but id like to keep the other for my other car.. ive been told i may have damaged my lost motion assemblies, the noise to me sounds like the normal honda valve tick, only louder, i have a freind with a gsr, and another with a type r hatch.. they both make similar noises, just not as noisy as mine.. ive put 200 or so miles on this thing since i screwed it up, no power loss, no smoke, no leaks.. it seems to be fine, just noisy

I did the same thing in my gsr. What happened to mine was I bent a rod and that ticking noise was it hitting the inside of the block. A new rod and its still going strong to this day... Do a compression test also, if you have one thats lower than the others like mine, that might be the problem also...

how could a LMA get damaged from sucking in water? probably a mashed rod bearing, bent rod, or bent valve.

At least it stills runs. I have a friend that threw a rod out the side of his z6 TWICE, crossing the same giant puddle haha!

Call your insurance company.

This is normally a covered loss.

Keep your facts straight and be honest about what happened.
