Default when to switch over to race fuel?

Hi, been here on the forums for years and many have helped me and I've help many. right now as my car sits I am running on pump gas and love the power that it puts out. I want to raise the bar to go faster but when should I switch to race fuel: this is my set-up and hopefully I can get some input, thanks:

B18A Block:
sleeved by GE 81.5mm
Pauter rods
Ross 9.0:1 pistons

B18B head:
Rocket Motorsports dual valvetrain
rocket titanium retainers
supertech valves
P&P by MMS in SD
402T cams

Fuel, engine management:
utilizing crome but waiting on Neptune RTP (DEMON)
walbro 255 pump
AEM fuel Rail
AEM FPR
precision 880cc injectors

Setup:
Turbonetics T3/T4 57 trim .60/.63AR
Sparkracing Manifold
2.5" downpipe to 3" exhaust (No cat)
blitz DD with hard spring
tial 38mm wastegate
29X10.5X2.5 IC core

I honestly want to max this turbo out before I switch to something bigger. I know it's not big, but when I got this setup together years ago, I had to grow into it...with my stock motor. now with the beast I have now, this turbo is too small, but at the least I wanna see what it's got. I want to know of anybody who has ever maxed this turbo out and what type of power I can look to get out of it, and when; if ever, should I switch to race fuel. thanks Tony

when the duty cycle of the injectors reach its maxium, and the tuner feels as though he cannot risk going for any additional timing or power without a substantial increase in detonation, is the point in which one switches over to race gas. In your case, with this turbocharger about over 17-19psi is when the switch is needed. the turbo can reach about 430whp at its maximum, and I don't recommend doing it for long. after that, you'll know whether or not you want to upgrade.

I wouldnt look at using race fuel as a power adder. Its more of a safe guard imho.

Thanks guys. this car is street tuned by me @ 15PSi, but by no means am I comfortable to go any further by myself, so I am taking it to a competent tuner(locash) to further my goal of maxxing this baby out on a dyno.

picked up 10 gallons of Q16 fuel today, I have read about this fuel and it's 116 leaded octane. witch I'm not too worried about other than my size injectors. I wanna say there big enough for what I'm trying to do but at the same time, I know Q16 fuel requires 4-5% more. will this still be OK to reach about 430HP with 880cc injectors or will I run out of room? My tune is gonna cost some serious money and if it's not going to be what I want then I rather not even attempt to go.

Definately could have done it on pump gas.. Funny thing, until I read this thread, I assumed it was a stock sleeved motor, lol.. I'd say to put a vtec head on it, and a bigger turbo and see what she'll do..

Perhaps this is what Locash feels is safe for the owner's driving habits and needs. That power can be performed on pump gas, but we don't know the dyno, needs, and other factors.

Oh, I definately feel that pump gas would have been adequate..

Ah. Question answered. Perhaps he is not aware of the particulars of the use of super high octane fuels and its benefits, as well as its obvious drawbacks (such as cost).

I'm just waiting for someone to do an E85 rant of some sort...... Tick Tick Tick *Jeopardy starts to play*..

thanks again guys. I need to look into changing my cap and rotor. that was our brick wall. it's like 10 years old.....oops!!! but it never gave me any problems before so I assumed it was fine. oh well, gotta see what that will do for me and my ignition issues.

We made 404whp on an LS, 83mm with a HX35 around 20psi, conservative on timing.
