• I purchased a 14b turbo about a year ago and finally going to put it to use. However before i do i want to make sure its in good condition. What are some simple ways to check for anything that will cause issues? (shaft play, leaks, etc)
• For this type of turbo am I required to run coolant lines? I've seen a few with but is it a must?

Check for shaft play by grabbing the center of the impeller shaft, and moving it side to side, and in and out. Some movement is acceptable, I think generally no more then 1-2mm of movement is best for side to side movement. Any in and out movement might indicate a problem.

 

for turbines that use both coolant and oil, it is best to run both for longevity. They are there for a reason.

run some oil through the chra to lube the assembly, and like the previous post said, check the shaft for any play.

 

An important point there, make sure there is oil in the center section, its not recommended to spin the impeller without lubrication.
