Recommendations for my AC problem (5th Gen)
So back in December, all of a sudden the AC died and killed the motor. So since then, I have not used it. I took it to a shop in December and was told it was the compressor and the clutch...Basically I can turn the AC unit on, but it cannot catch, so it just kills the engine. It's also probably been releasing metal shavings into the lines, so those will need to be flushed I assume.
Given that....would there be any reason not to just replace the compressor, clutch, dryers. and not the condenser? Obviously given the age of my car, I don't want to spend any more money than necessary since I still have a nagging oil leak.
But, I definitely want to spend enough to fix the problem. So if I take it to a shop, would you say just get the compressor and those things done, and not worry about everything?

Edit: I have been quoted $800 to $900, but one place today said around $600.
