heater core?

Default heater core?

so i just changed my head gasket a week ago and ive been babying it so i can break it in lol but when i turn my heater on it smells like antifreeze? is that the heater core going out? the other day i was driving it 20 miles to a different town and the temp gauge was at the dot in the middle and then i let off the gas and coasted down a hill and the temp gauge dropped almost to cold and stayed that way till i shut the car off and headed back the whole way back it was at the dot in the middle? opinions? lol thanks

sounds like the heater core depends where you smell antifreeze from tho . keep checking you fluids to make sure the head gasget is ok . do you have any fluids inside of the car feel the carpet up under the dash in the center console usually that will tell you

If you have antifreeze smell inside the car, most likely its a heater core going bad, or a leaking hose. As for the temp gauge, sounds like your thermostat is stuck open.

Sounds like a bad thermostat. Get a flush and a new thermostat before you go ripping out your heater core.
