Post need help..how do you go about checking for faulty wiring on a altenator

my altenator dosent seem to be charging my battery i took the alt out and brought it to autozone they said it was charging so i put it back in with a new belt and a new battery but it still reads less voltage when running.I checked the battery fuse under the hood and the alt sp fuse under the dash and they good. someone told me to check for bad wiring and i dont even know how to start i have a test light and multimeter just dont know what to do.My vss sensor just went to but i dont think that would have any affect. has anyone had this problem before that can please help me
