Looking to turbo my d series with the carb exempt GReddy Turbo Kit.
Don't know anything about turbos at all. Just want to boost it with a carb exempt turbo.
Anyone know how much power a stock d series AUTOMATIC tranny with 70k miles can handle?
Will it handle for the carb exempt GReddy turbo?
Anything else I need to replace while buying the turbo kit??
not sure where to start, so hoping this thread will take me somewhere to start researching
thanks, any other opinions and flaming will help and encourage me to do this

No i dont know how long the gears are in my tranny, don't know crap about this stuff, trying to read up on it. And hopefully getting some information out on here, faster than reading it.

Auto's are usually stronger than there counterpart manuals.
Will make a few things more difficult, but swapping the transmission isn't a harder job than turbo'ing it and your going to get a bigger gain from going manual IMO.

i'll be doing a swap as soon as the tranny dies.
Besides being hard/ to being able to tune an automatic, does anyone know how much power can it handle?

you have 11 posts.... how bout you STFU..
op: you can turbo your auto if you keep it lowwww boost, they are not strong transmissions and its like said up top they are hard to tune. with all the trouble you have to go thru its not very worth it.
Explain why they are hard to tune? I highly doubt it's hard to tune with an experienced tuner. We live in SoCal, tuners are a dime a dozen here but I personally know a few that do great jobs and that have won many awards.
information on forums are not always factual. you'll have a variety of answers ranging from experienced professionals all the way to the garage noobs. It's best if you read up on tuning, understanding the dynamics of a turbo and it's components. It's not hard if you understand it well, but you can also make a mess of your motor/car if you don't know what you're doing and just going from what you "hear" or what people tell you. Not everything you hear is true.
It can be done yes and im sure their are tuners that can deal with it. its just hrd to accuratly datalog them because when ur on the dyno and mash the gas to do a datalog it downshifts and as it runs through the rpms it never reaches redline because it shifts to soon. there is some guesswork involved. Its more complicated than that but maybe a tuner will come in here and explain better.
There is nothing wrong with turboing an auto. You can swap the transmission down the line when the clutchpacks giveout or maybe even the valve bodies. But I'm pretty sure the clutchpacks will give out first. As long as he doesn't boost during shifts he should be fine at over 200whp. He would have to let off boost and shift manually then get back on it.
