i got a 92 prelude auto with h23 4ws. and when the car is cold the light on the dash that says its in drive flashes but the trani shifts fine and is strong. but after a few mins i turn it off and back on and it stays solid like its supposed to. does anyone know why it does this?

 

When the d4 light flashes it means the tcm (transmission control module) has detected a problem.
Jump your service check connector to find out the code, and go from there.

 

ok got the code but now i cant find what it means. the d4 light flashes code 4. but all i can find is CEL codes...

 

DTC 4: Disconnected VSS (vehicle speed sensor) connector
Short or open in VSS wire
Faulty VSS

Hopefully you just have a loose connection, which is causing the prob.
Check the connector, give it a clean, and click it together tight. Check your wiring
for any wear which could be causing a short.

I purchased a second hand vss last year when my original died. The second hand
one would work intermittantly once the car warmed to operating temp. I saw my
auto elec and he said the circuitry in the actual vss units have a tendancing to
fail due to their age. He recommended i buy a new one. i did and no problems since.

ok that explains alot then i have the same problem the speedometer will work then stop and thats when the blinking starts but when the car warms up the speed sensor works fine.. i checked the plug on it and its all good. im gonna hit up the junk yard this weekend to see if i can find one. thanks alot.
