Failed Emissions Test- Any tips/advise
So on Saturday, I took my mechanically mint GSR (or so I thought) to emissions. The guy was talking to me about his 10 second CRX, blah blah blah, complementing me on my car, so I figured everything was fine.. Then he tells me I failed.
I failed HC (PPM).
My results are this:
Cruise limit: 116-Pass
Idle Emissions: 259, limit was 220.-Fail.
I passed everything else, though. I had an appointment to get my Koni Yellows installed in a few days, so I went ahead and called them to add a tune up to my scheduled appointment. My car is stock, other than a Short ram Intake, and Skunk2 Cat back exhaust. Will a tune up be what I need? Or is there something else I need to do. I don't work on Honda's unless its something very simple, so I need all the help I can get here. I'm hoping the Tune up will be what i need, but I'm not sure if it will solve my problem. Anyone know what could be the problem? Thanks

Bump... Come on guys, someone has to know how to help. I dont wanna pay for a tune up if it isnt gonna solve my emissions problem
always do a tune up before a smog! i always get a new air filter plugs wires and dist.cap and a clean tank of 91 cheveron it makes a diffrence trust me if you use cheap gas it will help fail you.
I never use cheap gas, always 92.... I didn't really take any extra steps, because I just figured I would pass no problem. My car is as mechanically sound as it can be, or so i thought. Anyways, I'm getting the tune up Wednesday, and then I'm going to run the **** out of it on the freeway right before my test. Do you guys recommend any octane boosters or anything?

if you want to just pass on it now cause you're short on cash. the old bottle of rubbing alcohol in the gas tank works. just dump the bottle into a 1/4 tank of gas. run the car hot for about and hour (make your cat supper hot) and get it smogged again. your car will read 0. the alcohol will make your car burn so clean, you'd think it was a hydrogen car.
but that's just the cheap way to do it. in the long run you're going to need a tune up.
