so i recently got my car stolen and they took my radio, speakers and so on

i got a new radio for it and its acting weird it only turns on when i turn my headlights on, what can it be???


and my clock on the dash doesn't save the time it restarts every time i turn off the car

simply you have you wiring jacked up! you are not powering the radio with the correct factory wires, sounds to me like your 12v+ red wire is being fed by the headlight switch somehow, and your clock obviously is on switched power... it needs to be on constant power.

 

As mentioned, you conneced the HUs acc. power, [red] to the stock radio harness illumination lead, [red/black], no acc. power to HU unless park/head lights are on.

The problem with clock is probably a blown fuse, check the 7.5A back up powe fuse in engine bay fuse box. 94

 

ah i didn't think about him tying into illumination, that makes sense, sounds like nail on the head to me, the clock thing is crazy though, when i pulled the clock in my integra it had 4-5 wires on it, yea my clock went dead, and it was the 7.5a fuse in the main fusebox near the battery under the hood, but mine was dead completely, his is just losing memory, maybe there is another fuse somewhere unless his is a different style clock from mine.

 

Both the radio and clock have the switched power, [acc.] and the unswitched power, [12V+ constant], the constant power for both the clock and the radio are on the same fuse, both the clock and radio will turn on if the constant power fuse is blown, clock will loose time, [reset to 1:00pm] and radio will loose any presets.

Most aftermarket HU will not turn on if constant power fuse is blown as it is the HUs main power, acc. power is just a trigger. [like an amps control lead].

Your Integra clock would have a 12V+ constant, [white/blue] a 12V+ switched, [yellow/red] a ground, [black] and an illumination, [red/black] all 4 of those leads are also in the radio harness, off the same fuses, [grounds are grounded at same dash harness ground point]. 94

 

so would this explain why my headlights turn on when i turn my key? i just wired a hu up, and this has happened to me. i take the head unit out, and put it in my grand am, and nothing like that happens. in my jeep, nothing happens, in my teg, the lights come on. what gives? sorry, didn't mean to thread jack.

 

What year is your Integra?

Are you wiring the HU to the stock radio harness?

Are you using a harness adapter or has the stock radio plug been cut off so you have to "hard wire" the HUs harness to the cars radio harness?

The only connection to the cars lighting circuit in the radio harness will be the red/black, [dash and park light circuit] it however would not power up the head lights.

Is it just the head lights, [high or low beam?] that come on or do the park/dash lights also come on?

As soon as you turn on the ign.?

the car is a 91. i used one of those walmart adapter harness' to wire the hu up. its not the head lights that light up. its the parking lights. the front and rear corner lights actually. they come on when i turn the ign. to the on position. i mean, it really doesn't bother me, but, if i'm out in my car listening to the radio, i don't want that extra strain on the battery. just in case, ya know.

 

Check and make sure that a blue or blue/white lead is not connected to the red/black of the stock radio harness.

So if you connected the wire harness from the HU to the Walmart adapter harness it was probably a color for color connection, if a blue, or blue/white was connected to the adapter harness from the HU harness, check to see if it it "lines up" with the red/black in the stock harness, if so, disconnect it.

The blue or blue/white should only be connected to the power ant. lead, [brown/white] in the stock radio harness. 94

 

Sorry for bumping such an old thread but didn't feel like making new one for same question. My HU is doing samething. It turns on only with park lights and sometimes it blows the fuse in the front under hood. The 15a (3rd on 1st row)

My radio is a double din, the harness from radio is connected to an adapter. It goes like this..

Acc red wire of unit is connected to red wire on adapter and the adapter connects iit to (YELLOW/RED)

Yellow wire of HU is connected to yellow wire on adapter and it connects it to white/blue or car harness.

Illumination wire is cut off both from HU and adapter.

 

Something is miswired, the red/black is the only illumination power lead in the stock radio harness, some Honda/Acura, [you did not give a MM&Y] also have a red illumination ground lead.

You need to pull the HU out and check the wiring.

What is the make and model of your double din?

What brand is the harness adapter?

"The 15a (3rd on 1st row)" doesn't mean much without a MM&Y. 94
