Not sure that it's the #1 way...but I've been pretty successful with just using Simple Green and a power washer.

I like to use some P21S or a dilution of some APC and use a lot of different brushes. And then dress with say some 303 Aerospace Protectant.

Any APC will work. Really dirty motors may need degreasers.

how do you guys get it all nice and shining cause I use simple green or purple power degreaser and it turns out all dull and faded on the plastics try spraying some protectant on it but it look all spotty and fades away to the dull look.

exactly what i did. simple green/degreaser/amazing roll off to clean, then spray her down with cd2. not silicone based so wont attract dust like other dressings

i cover electrical stuff battery, distributer etc witha plastic shopping bag, then sprayed with a dilluted apc (automagic triple seven) let sit for a few. open ended hose rinse, and dressed with 303, and the bay looked sweet! a little quick detailer spray in some areas also helps.

cd2?
