cruise control not working?!?!
93 del sol
always worked fine but recently it wont engage. i hit the button on the dash and that lights up yet when i use the steering wheel buttons the light in the dash doesnt illuminate nor does the cruise work. i didnt see any fuses for cruise control. any ideas?
i was going to check the buttons on the steering wheel. anyone wanna chime in??

My cruise isnt working either, the light wont turn on. Im not the smartest when it comes to this, but this is how I would go about it. Just inspect the system, I wont be much of a help but its worth a try.
But I dont know what to say to ya. Pop the hood and make sure the cruise control plug is connected, it comes off the module, its on the drivers side. If it doesnt turn on when you press the button on the wheel then maybe check to see if the plug is disconnected inside. Take a torx 30 screwdriver and take off the 2 torx screws on both the left and right side of the wheel. Just pull the cover for the cruise buttons on the right side of the wheel and you'll see the screw on that side. Careful not to break its tabs.
Then the airbag thing will pop out, might want to disconnect your battery for 30 mins just to be safe it wont go off. Then you will see the plugs.
Thats all I can think of. I believe theres a fuse for cruise on the fusebox inside the engine. Im almost 100% sure. Check that first before doing what I told ya. Thats all I cant think of. Good luck!

If so, check the cruise control clutch switch near the top of the clutch pedal assembly... the rubber grommet/stopper that pushes the button on the switch may have busted.

yes its a 5speed. its odd because it always worked no problem then all of a sudden it doesnt. as soon as the rain slows down here (sucks not having a garage!), im gonna check the fuses. i have a feeling the button near the clutch pedal may be the culprit. thanks for all the ideas, after i check out everything i will repost my results. anyone else have any ideas?

I would start by checking the continuity of the switch (buttons depressed as needed during testing etc.) at the steering wheel. Follow the SRS precautions (disconnect battery five minutes, put red short connector on airbag connector, etc. see Chilton's or Autozone). Disassemble the steering wheel per the manual (you will need a Torx 30 driver). The wiring will be obvious.
Then I think the easiest, most systematic approach is to follow the cruise control troubleshooting matrix in the shop manual, where the wires from the cruise control module (the brain of the system) are checked one by one for continuity, voltage, and so on, per the troubleshooting matrix under step 17 at http://honda.lioness.googlepages.com/cruisecontrol
or the equivalent matrix for your del sol.

i have a factory service manual for a 95 del sol which should be the same or similar enough. i found the page and have the testing procedures. just waiting for some decent weather (which unfortunately looks like rain till next sat)
I have the same problem. My cruise doesn't work and i get no light when it is engaged, yet i have already checked the fuses they are all good.
Can you do a write up on it or post some pics when you start to diagnose yours?

In for exactly the same problem!! 94 del Sol, the dash ligh turns on when I press the switch, but nothing happens when I try to set speed.
Please inform us of any troubleshooting you try! Thanks!

Yeah Im going to be tackling that issue soon. I dont have a SRS clockspring and I think cruise needs that but yeah, Ill do a writeup if I can. I looked and I didnt see a fuse for the cruise.
Anybody whose cruise control light in the cluster won't turn on... check the grommet/stopper near the top of the clutch pedal assembly where the clutch cruise control switch is.
horn is fine, im glad in a way others have the same issue because now i feel im not crazy lol.
i just went out and checked the fuses, all are fine and horn sounds. nothing stopped working when the cruise did.
for anyone with a del sol you need to check the #15 and #24 fuses in the car and under the hood #39,41,42
when looking at the chart it suggests for cruise not being set to check
-main switch
-set/resume switch
-control unit input
-grounds
i will also check the switch on the clutch and post back my progress

Try using your horn..
Often problems like this that occour are actually a clock spring problem.. The SRS system, horn, or Cruise buttons fail to work and it's all because of that stupid clock spring..
it's a little work, but an ohm meter test could help here.. test a lead on one of the buttons to it's corresponding wire under the steering column to see if the connection in the clock spring has been broken..
Just throwing it out there..

still doesn't rule out the clock spring.. cruise control buttons are 3 of 6? wires in the clock spring..
And who cares if I didn't see the horn part.. minor details..

my cruise control wasnt working and i looked under the petals at the button itself and the clutch petal arm wasnt in contact with it... i adjusted it up tighter and it worked again. just my thoughts and experience.
Good call! didn't think about that.. The brake pedal switch would do the same thing.. do the civics share a brake pedal switch or are they separate?? I can't remember..
