Ok, So I been doing some searching and trying to find out more about using the s2k filter in my d16z6. And I wanted to see if anyone had any experiences with this? Thanks!

Does it really Bump the oil pressure up?

I don't know that it bumps the pressure up, but reading that is enough to put me off of all OEM honda filters. I suspected the quality went down when they switched to filtech (fram), but that confirms it.

 

An S2000 filter would not increase oil pressure. Hondas filters are not made by filtech, haven't been for years, they are made by honeywell, and they are very high quality, if you don't think so, cut an aftermarket one in half and an OEM one, theres a big difference. Take it from someone with a lot of firsthand knowledge.

 

After researching a bit, I've found that you're partly right. The old filters (part number 15400-PLM-A01) were made by filtech, parent company of Dana/Wix, and were high quality filters. These are no longer made, but still available some places. They are stamped Filtech, and my friend bought one at Meyer Honda in O'Fallon IL last week. These are good quality, and recommended if you can find them. If not, use a black can Wix.

The new filters (part number 15400-PLM-A02) are made by Honeywell, parent company of Fram. Internally, they are almost identical to an orange can Fram, including the cardboard endcaps and fuzzy filter material. I would not put one on my car for the same reasons I wouldn't put a Fram on it. These are the ones currently in production.

So What advantages will the s2k filter have over the stock filter?

Well the AP1's use NAPA size 21334 and the AP2's use 21356. ALL Civics 92-00 use size 21334 and the newer Civic's and RSX's use 21356. I use NAPA Gold oil filters on my 99 Si as well as my 93 B16A EJ2 and never ran into any problems..

 

^^ Absolutely. Save the extra few dollars and run the proper filter.

Bang for your buck, a Filtech or Honeywell OEM filter is still the best choice. The referenced thread is interesting, but I would run either of the above over any brand of aftermarket filter any day for standard maintenance.

I've also seen many of these come in installed 500% over-torque with no drips, deformation or seal/thread damage on removal--can't say that for many aftermarket brands filters.

 

Fram usually uses two different oil filters for Hondas. Earlier models use one filter and new models (~'02 up or so) use a different filter.

For Fram the pre-2000 Civic and S2000 filters are the same.

 

honda is doing away with the old fat s2000 filter.

they will only carry the smaller filter, since it fits all the hondas.

Probably true, hasn't happened yet, and they still need to make some of them for Legends at least, but they did away with the small insight filters for normal ones now too. And all of you complaining about honda filters having parts of the filter coming apart obviously never heard of their ANTI DRAINBACK VALVE! No debris or anything that enters the filter can leave it!

 

there is 1 legend that has a different thread size than the other hondas/acuras

i have come across a couple of them and dont know why/what separates the two.

if fact, the acura guys, rarely kept that filter in stock. so the few that came in for service, couldnt get their filter changed.

 

so what is a good filter i can stick with on my d15y8? STP?

Thats strange that an acura dealer would not stock that filter for the legend and my HONDA dealer I work at does, 92ehatch, I guess more work for us.

 

well the one i worked at was run by a bunch of morons.

they fired me because i wouldnt diagnose a car for free...

if i did it for free, then why should i even be there.

they didnt even stock air filters for s2000's , if you came in with an s2k you had to wait a day for your air filter

 

Sounds a lot like my dealer on the parts end, we have to go to other local dealers to get stupid sh*t like air filters and brake pads all the time, and you are right about doing stuff for free, I b*tch too when they ask me too, there isn't much point to it.

 

Yeah S2K filter won't help you at all.


On another note, I use a K&N filter. Apparently K&N and Mobil1 filters are the same internally, and the only difference is the outside label, color, and the nut welded on the K&N. Actually though, I find the nut welded onto the K&N quite handy so I get it instead of the Mobil1.

 

if it was a simple diagnostic then that woulda been fine, i guess.

but i had NO cars that day, clocked 0.0 hours, it was 3pm and this guy was complaining of a suspension noise.

as you know, noises in these new ones is a bitch to diagnose (when there are no tsb's)

no way i was doing it. oh well, im drawing my unemployment from them now.

and as far as oil filter, i just use a fram.

i used to use honda OEM, cause occasionally at work i would find a "defective one" and keep it for my car free oil changes "WERE" nice lol
