Cruise Control Light Is Always On & Cruise Doesn't Work? Help?
I have a 1993 Del Sol Si D16Z6 with manual transmission. Recently I started the car and the cruise control light stayed on. The cruise control switch is not depressed. The speedometer works, the tail lights work, the clutch pedal seems to be all the way up, and the fuses are all fine. However, the light stays on.
Does anyone have any ideas about what is happening here? For some reason the Honda service manual and my Haynes manual both don't have any information about a cruise control light that stays on. They deal with every other issue with cruise control but not with this.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

My guess is a bad control unit. Do the control unit input tests in the diagrams below. If all tests are fine, then replace the control unit.

The thing is that the cruise control appeared to work properly until I changed the power steering belt and alternator belt. Doing that required me to unbolt the cruise control actuator under the hood by the power steering fluid reservoir. Since then the cruise control gauge light has stayed on and will not work. I checked the actuator and it is plugged in correctly. However, nothing seems to help.
I suppose it is possible that while I was checking the wiring inside the dash I unplugged or unseated the cruise control box. I will check that. I don't know if I have the tools or electrical knowledge to perform all of those tests but I will try. Otherwise I will just have to replace the box.

You need to buy or borrow an inexpensive digital multimeter ($15-$20) to test for continuity and voltage. It's really not very difficult. I recommend that you give this a try as you will learn something new and important. HT members can answer any basic questions you have about using a multimeter. This way you pinpoint the problem without guessing.

Okay, well then I will break out a multimeter and go to work. By the way where did you get the schematic from? I know that it isn't a Haynes manual. It looks like the OEM Honda manual but I could be wrong.
I had a spare dimmer switch and I installed that to see if somehow that was the problem. It didn't make a difference.
I am at a position that is tuff. I can get a cruise control module off of Ebay for $19.99 or from my local junk yard for $25. A multimeter is just as expensive. So, I am wondering if I should buy the multimeter or a new cruise control module. After all this time working on cars I have never used a multimeter. Please don't flame me for saying that. So, for the cost, which makes the most sense?
