Default misfire questions?

i have a 98 ITR. and some times when i am at a stop my mil mil light will start flashing and the car will start miss firing. pulled codes p0303- misfire cyl 3, and p1399. but the one thing that is getting me stuck is that i let the car sit over night and the next day i go to fire it up and the car runs fine. This happens only once and a while. already replaced dis. cap, rotor button, wires, and spark plugs.

Are you on a stock ECU? Swap a distributor with a friend. Make sure timing is right.

what kind of plugs and wires are you using? did you wash your car/engine or did it get wet or anything? sometimes i've had that problem when not running ngk plug wires (namely msd or a few other cheap brands) and then after washing off my engine, water would get down in the spark plug tubes, and it would cause it to misfire bad. i've also had problems with external coils.

never had a misfire problem with stock internal coil, stock cap & rotor, ngk "blues" plug wires (amazing quality for $40, worlds better than anything else) & cheap ngk plugs. made over 500 whp on pump runnin like factory with that ignition setup. its all ill ever use unless someone wants coilpacks or somethin...

hope this helps, good luck. misfires can be a bitch

ya i am running a full msd setup . the box, external coil, and cap. but i am running ngk wires and plugs. never had a problem with it. been running it like that for years. intill one day i was replacing the oil seal on the dizzy and i was spraing brake clean around it to clean off the oil. then when i went to go turn on the car my dizzy cap exploded. "replaced the cap with a new msd one and rotor button!" That when the problem started. BUT IT ONLY HAPPENS ONCE AND WHILE.

ding ding! it always seems to be the case... msd stuff simply has no place on a honda. usually, at least in several personal experiences, the coil terminal post on the cap comes loose. i've also gone through 3 msd blaster ss coils until i determined they were crap, and all kinds of wires until i found ngk. i'd say an internal coil and cap, and unhooking the msd ignition, and running the stock setup, youd be golden. and have a lot less goin on under the hood. keep it simple.

People still run MSD's? Geez, remove that system. The stock system works great.

FIX IT OR CHANGE IT.... if ur check engine light is blinking on and off it means you have really bad miss fire. its detonating inside ur engine mess up ur piston

i did a compression test on the car and it was 175psi across the board except on cyl-3 it was at 145psi. so i am going to try to redo my vavle lash and see if that has to do anything that. and cyl 3 was the one misfiring. maybe one of the valves are to tight.

175??? on an ITR???? 145 is a large difference from 175.. but all those numbers seem very low.

Did you perform the test correctly? What's done to this motor?
