Default vtec solenoid question

My car has been running like trash for about a week and i have been putting off taking care of it (i know not smart.) any way it would bog down when i was not engaging the throttle and then jerk very bad when i would give it gas... but it was very sporadic. It would run fine one day then like trash the next. well today i was on the interstate in 5th and it bogged down yet wouldnt go anywhere when i gave it gas. so i downshifted to 4th and it throttled up. i shifted back to 5th and it just bogged down and died and would not start back up. i pulled the code: 21 (vtec solenoid defective.) I have never had a problem with it before so i'm not sure but could it really cause this much ruckus with my car?

sorry for the rambling....

thanks

Have you taken it off and cleaned the screen?
Sometimes a clogged fuel filter wil cause similar issues..

sounds to me like a customer of mine. an ignitor will often cause odd running problems prior to dieing. in my case it ran weird a few days prior. then the ignitor died one night will driving. luckily one block from my place so i grabbed a new one and fired right up.

anyways now I'm rambling; check for spark. if none check your coil and ignitor

your right, i checked the spark nothing... do you think a new dizzy would be the way to go on this? or just replace the ignitor? i also cleaned out the solenoid and the code was erased...
