P13 or P28?
I'm doin the ever-so-interesting G23 vtec build.. Now, the guy that built the motor that went in the EF civic would probably use a different ecu, compared to what I'm doin.
He had everything dialed in with the k20 pistons, all the machining, etc...
But, what I'm goin to do is: leave the f23 bottom end stock, get it balanced to 8500 rpms. Stick the h22 head on, and run it like that for a while, just to see how well it'll perform. And to see if the f23 stock internals will ever hold up to 7500+ rpm. And, if I throw a rod, or whatever, no big deal. I'm planning on rebuilding the bottom end with new parts anyways.
Anyways, I've seen everyone and their mother runs a virgin p28, but if you don't get it fine-tuned immediately, then it'll run the h22 (g23, or whatever) lean, and lead to detonation, fowled valve train, etc... And I plan on driving (not hammering on the motor, just grandma-type driving) it for a while before I get it fine-tuned. Possibly even just drive it to the tuning shop.
And, according to some tuning guys that I've talked to, you can run a stock basemap p13 with a stock h22, and it'll do just fine... but with the F23 block and the longer stroke, and all that jazz, idk if the p13 or the p28 would be best suited for me driving it until I get it tuned-- or which would be easier to tune with. He also says that the p13 is a bastard to find components to tune with. So idk, which way to go.
I read a thread on here that said the absolute BEST route would be to get a virgin p28, take it to a shop, and have them completely make a custom basemap for it. Would that be the best way? Like, run the p28 for daily driving, then get it fine-tuned completely custom to that motor?
Sorry for the long thread... Just lookin' for anwsers that I can't find elsewhere.

Do you plan on using the IABs?
You can still use the IABs with the p28, you will just have to get someone to install the componets on the board.
You may want to check with some peeps and find somone that has allready made a g23 basemap. I would ask THC07 he has a **** load of really good basemaps.
Your cheapest solution would be a p06 fully converted and basemap bin for the g23.
Be wary of whom builds your basemap. Its risky if your dealing with noobs

Ok, lol I was cleaning those the other day, and wondered what they were called lol.
BUt ya, I plan on using the IABS.
I sent a message to thc07, and he's helpin me out a bit. I'm hopin he has a g23 basemap, or can at least help me build one.

just to clarify, virgin p28 means a p28 that isnt even chipped, and is running the stock d16z6 fuel and ignition maps. anyone running any motor besides a d16z6 with a virgin p28 truelly is an idiot.
you probably are referring to the right things, just the wrong terminology, just felt like pointing that out lol

Well ya, lol.
I wouldn't run a virgin p28 with a g23 or h22... o_O that'd be retarded lol
I just want to buy a virgin p28, send the ecu and my car to a honda dyno tuning shop, and let them play with it and see what comes up :p

I have not built a very good g23 or g22 basemap yet, I would suggest just using a F series bin to get you to the tuner. otherwise buy the ecu from him and get it tuned on the spot.
That's from him lol
So ya, I guess a f series would work to get me there... Idk how, I would imagine that with the taller combustion chambers of the h22 head, that it would mess with something somehow and like... idk, blow up lol o_O ouch.
I wonder if there's any difference between the basemaps of the f22 and f23. I might look into that. lol

Is he a worthy guy to go through? Knows what he's doin with all the tuning and stuff?
