Default Vtec not kickin in on 05 ex after head gasket change.

Hi im posting for a friend but anyways a friend just swapped out a head gasket on my freinds 05 civic EX. After the job the vtec is not kicking in when its supposed to and sometimes will not rev past 5000 rpm, btw the car is an automatic. Im going to take a look at is sometime soon. Any ideas on what to lo0k for maybe connectors in wrong places? everything at the vtec solenoid area looks to be connected last time I seen. the mechanic who did the work has been contacted but is lagging so I just wanna see if there is anything I can maybe look for.

Thanks

When do you think VTEC engages?

PS. If the car won't rev past 4,000 RPM's, the car is in "Limp" mode and needs to be serviced.

Some plugs look the same. Make sure everything is wired back to the right sensor. There's a couple identical plugs that can be messed up and cause an issue.

im not sure when vtec engages on the em2 automaticits probably different then my b18c. Yea I will check the plugs i know on the b-series some plugs are identical and hook up to places they shouldn't. Ok thanx guys I will check the plugs and find out what that limp mode is all about.
thnx

It kicks in at 2700 rpm's. So, "hearing VTEC engagement" is a little more difficult than on other VTEC-equipped engines.

i just recently seen this same issue on another civic that came to my shop.. complaints where vtec wasnt engaging.

after looking at the car the oil light was on as well with the car not going above 5k rpms. (starting bucking at that speed.)

turns out two connecters (customer just put in a used motor) were swapped. the oil pressure switch and the vtec solenoid. i swapped them around and toil light was off...car went faster then 5k rpms. even after i did the swapping of the two plugs i still couldnt "feel" vtec engaging.

the car was throwing a code for vtec malfunction....after swapping the vehcile didnt have this code anymore.
