I have what seems to be a weird electrical problem. I'll be driving down the street, and see my speedo needle freefall down briefly, and my RF transmitter which is connected to the cig lighter cuts out. The car feels as to stumble for that brief period of time. Alternator seems good, displacing a charge between 12.5v and 14.1. The car is a stock 97 Ex, D16Y8

Any experience something similar? I'm not sure what to look for.

EDIT: Drove it right now and noticed the voltage to drop to 11.0 and go as high as 15.8. So I'm guessing alternator?

Yes, probably the alternator (most likely the voltage regulator is out).

 

Thanks, got a new batt today (old one was really old), and the condition did not improve.

Will change the alternator either tomorrow or Friday. Been reading about removing it and it seems like a PITA, hopefully it comes out through the top.

 

change it and let me no what happens. i have a idle drop and a weird vaccumm increase like i have a stage 2 cam in my y8. only does ti with my roll windows up or turn the headlights on. i checked both alternator and battery and both read fine so i dunno???
