ebay bypass valve worth $17?
i see these things all over ebay...theyre basically just a filter that goes on the intake tube, no actual valve. do you think they work? do you think they let enough hot air in to negate the cold air from the intake? i really dont wanna spend $50 on an AEM one if i dont have to (i know im cheap you dont have to flame me for it).
BTW if you have an aem one for sale lmk

you could do that on my accord i just plugged it and put a pepboys filter on the valve cover and on my civic i put a hose to the valve cover like its made to be
i dont think you understand what this is suposed to do. its suposed to help stop you from sucking up water in your cold air intake. nothing to do with the valve cover thing.
ive only seen results of an AEM, thats the only one i'd trust... there was a video floating around of an AEM being tested and they submerged the filter on the intake into a fish tank and opened up the throttle. ive trusted some things from ebay and i still have them on 3 and 4 years later working fine, but this, i wouldnt trust.
items like this are putting major companies out of business, they just copy the design and manufacture it. they don't have to pay for R&D
i mean i don't see anything really wrong with the design of it, it'd be really hard to mess up attaching a filter in between two couplers.
i would still go for the AEM though, you would be supporting the industry many of us love and it has proven to work. besides i wouldn't mind paying $50 to save my motor.

Just remember, you get what you pay for.Sure the AEM bypass is a little expensive but if you buy the e-bay one and its junk(im sure it is)then you have just wasted money.
these we re pretty much my thaughts too when i first saw it...figured id ask around anyway. and yes i saw that video of the fish tank, it was on an nsx with more power than the valve is rated for too.

where is this video? ive looked in youtube and can not find it.
I'm sure it would be nice if everyone "supported the industry" and bought the real deal instead of E-junk, but the fact of the matter is the eBay version costs $12. I doubt there was so much research/development involved in creating a straight through filter that AEM needs to charge $50. I really can't see spending $50 on more or less the same thing. Buuut to each his own.
And the eBay seller makes it sound so high-tech!
"A Bypass Valve filter helps your engine intake to have consistent air flow and prevent hydraulic lock. Many cases driving under heavy rain or wet floor, aftermarket cold air intake will often sorb the moist into the filter, having it unable to have air flow. The bypass helps resolve that problem, by having a 2nd air filters. "

if it was actually a valve, i would buy it hands down....but the fact that its gonna take in hot engine bay air all the time kinda makes me think it will negate all of the cold air from the intake.
To be honest ...why not just run a short ram? I mean, if you're going to put a filter between the piping..why not just run an SRI? Is having dual filters going to help?
I switch my AEM between SRi and CAI depending on the season.

this is designed NOTHING like the AEM bypass that ive seen. Ive seen that video of the NSX as well...its freakin AWESOME!....but the AEM one is a adapter that has 3 or 5 "slots" on it that remain closed during normal use. When the intake is submerged and cannot successfully receive the air and pressure it needs, it opens the slots, and allows air to flow through, stopping it from sucking up the water. This is simply just another filter higher up on the intake. I mean it may work, but its DEF not like the ones form AEM that ive seen. The AEM one is proven, E-gay is never....you get what you pay for...
i def wouldnt try driving through a puddle with this....thats for sure...

again if this one had the flaps or at least one big flap, i would be getting it.
Do not get the ebay one they are junk and do not work i had one and it didnt work at all i might as well of just had a short ram intake because that was all it really did, it completely took away the whole purpose of having a cold air intake...but really my friend was driving his 00 civic si that had an aem cold air intake and it also had the aem bypass valve and he drove through a puddle that caused his cold air intake to be submerged in water because he has kind of bad flooding on his road and his car actually died and got water in his motor but he shut it off and got it out of the water by pushing it but it started back up but in my opinion it didnt work good enough for me to buy one, i will just stick with a short ram intake because it almost caused him to lose his motor
yeah, the aem one in the video of the NSX is more of a valve than this eGay "valve" like DC2 said, the AEM remains closed during fair weather conditions and only opens the slots when it needs them, in turn allowing the water to exit the intake the way it came from...you can test this by putting your hand over the end of the intake as well, just incase you dont feel like putting it in a fish tank
