I need to take my crankshaft pulley off but dont have the special tool to hold it. I was wondering if anyone knew any tricks that i can hold the pulley so I can take the nut off.

be careful trying those "tricks"

seen pictures of a damaged tranny case from someone trying to use a screw driver to hold the flywheel.

is the car drivable? if so and you don't want to buy the tool, just take it up to a shop and have them remove it with an air gun and snug it back on so you can drive back home. But then you'll have to go back up there so they can tighten it once the work is done.

The car isn't drivable and i tried to use an impact gun, but the nut wont break loose.

For what it's worth, my suggestion would be to buy the tool. I recently replaced the timing belt on my sons car and without the tool it would have been impossible. In fact even with the tool I couldn't get the pulley off with my impact wrench. Had to use a breaker bar and a 6ft piece of pipe to break it loose. I ordered the tool over the internet from a placed called the tool Warehouse for $50, or so. If your interested, there web site is:

You can get it off Amazon for ~$25. Shipped. Worth it, works on all years 1990 and up.

It's really impossible to get off without this tool, impact wrench won't do anything unless you got a super good one.
